Sunrise Housing
The Sunrise Housing team delivers comprehensive support to individuals and families on their journey to stable housing. Our program includes in-depth support for clients, such as locating individuals, obtaining paperwork for those who have been referred to various housing programs, distributing financial assistance for move-in costs, and providing case management for our Rapid Rehousing (RR) and Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) services.
About
The Sunrise Housing program was created to address a growing community need: helping individuals referred for housing navigate their journey to stable homes. Our Community Housing Navigator supports clients with limited or no case management, connecting them to vital community resources like Community First! Village and Foundation Communities.
Since its founding, Sunrise Housing has expanded significantly. In September 2022, we introduced Permanent Supportive Housing using Emergency Housing Vouchers in a scattered-site model. In March 2024, we launched Rapid Rehousing services through the Best Single Source Collective in partnership with Caritas. Most recently, in October 2024, we added diversion and rapid-exit financial assistance through the Sunrise Wayfinder program.
As the largest homeless services provider in Travis County, Sunrise has helped over 4,275 clients find safe, affordable housing through diverse programs and tailored support options.

Sunrise Housing Success Story
Darlene’s Story
Darlene says she came from nothing, moving from school to school, place to place, when she was little. Her mom was the sole caretaker for her and her five siblings. But when she met her now ex-husband, she started to have hope that her kids would have the two things she didn’t when she was growing up: stability and roots. On the surface, her 20+ year marriage was going well. But people “didn’t know what [was happening] behind closed doors.” After years of abuse, Darlene moved to Austin, TX so she could stay with her mom and other family members. But the house was overcrowded, and it wasn’t long before domestic disputes and limited income meant Darlene was living out of her car. Lonely and reeling from broken relationships, Darlene learned about Sunrise from her sister in 2018. For the past four years, Darlene has come to Sunrise for warm showers, food, mail, and supplies for her two chihuahuas, coordinated housing assessments, and to see a doctor for her chronic arthritis pain that limits her mobility. Darlene also worked with Sunrise staff to complete her Community First! Village tour and housing application and on September 14, 2022, Darlene moved into her new house in the village!
